Q3. Answer

As we have seen in answer to the previous question, man cannot earn his salvation (be saved) by good works; he always falls short of the glory of God, because it is in his nature to sin. God is love but He is also justice. Therefore, He must in righteousness judge our sins; but He Himself has paid the penalty for our sins by placing it on His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus, though innocent, died on a cross to pay the supreme price for the sins of the whole world. This was His life’s mission and purpose and He knew it. Read about it in the Bible (John 12:27).

Do you know of any human judge that has pronounced a death sentence on an accused and then the judge’s own son has taken the punishment, died in his place, the accused going free? This is what God has already done for you, because of His great love for you!

To be saved, you simply choose to believe this. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16) Salvation is a gift of God’s grace (favor we cannot earn or deserve) that is received through faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Not only do you go free and receive eternal life, as if that were not enough, but you receive a new start, and benefits galore, for: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1Corinthians 2:9).

These are the steps – so why wait? Please take them now and mean them in your heart:

1. Speak to God as you would to a trusted friend. Confess your sins (wrongdoings) to God, those you can remember and those you’ve forgotten!
2. Thank Him for sending Jesus to pay the price for your sins. Tell Him you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead for your salvation.
3. Tell Him you choose to forgive all those who have ever hurt or offended you and ask Him to help you really mean it.
4. Ask God to forgive you for all resentments and bitterness or ‘unforgiveness’ that you may have towards anyone or anything.
5. Tell God that you turn your life over to Jesus to obey and follow Him. Ask Jesus to come into your heart as your Saviour and Lord. Thank Him for doing so. And ask Him to show you how to live your new life in ways that please Him.
6. Now you must tell someone you have become a Christian.

For it is with your heart that you believe… and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (Romans 10:10)

We pray God will lead you to tell the right person and also that you will be led to a good church. Get yourself a Bible and begin reading it regularly. Start with the New Testament and with John’s Gospel.

If you have taken these steps, please let us know, so that we can support and encourage you! (See also the next question: How may I receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit)
