Intelligent Design

Scientists are becoming increasingly aware of the fine-tuning of the mathematics and physics of the universe; and, as the list of finely-tuned characteristics continues to grow, they are being driven to conclude what they do not want to admit – that the universe is a work of intelligent design.

Dr. Paul Davies, a physicist at Arizona State University where he is the Director of BEYOND: Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science, writes in his book, God and the New Physics: “The laws of physics seem themselves to be the product of exceedingly ingenious design.” And in his book, The Cosmic Blueprint, he adds: “There is for me powerful evidence that there is something going on behind it all… It seems as though somebody has fine-tuned nature’s numbers to make the universe. The impression of design is overwhelming.”

Robert Jastrow (1925-2008), world-renowned astrophysicist and cosmologist and a leading NASA scientist (1958-81), spoke about it in an interview with Christianity Today. He said: “Astronomers now find they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation to which you can trace the seeds of every star, every planet, every living thing in this cosmos and on the earth. And they have found that all this happened as a product of forces they cannot hope to discover. That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact.”

In his book, God and the Astronomers, he wrote: “For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”
