Happy Morn!
It was an exceedingly happy morn, when Jesus’ tomb was found to be empty and His grave cloths discarded. His rising confirmed that sin and death had been defeated. Because Jesus died sinless, death could not hold Him.
His rising spectacularly proved what He had already achieved; for it was His death that opened for us the way to life.
At the moment of His death on the Cross, the temple curtain, about 60 feet in height, 30 feet in width and four inches thick, was torn completely in two, from top to bottom. Only God could do this. Only God could tear in two a 60 feet long, 4 inch thick curtain from top to bottom. It had separated sinful man from intimate fellowship with God to the point that only the High Priest could go in behind it just once a year to atone for the sins of the nation…but with the blood of an animal, whereas the Blood of Jesus was now the perfect atonement once and for all…not for the sins of just one nation but of every nation…for the sins of the whole world.
No more animal sacrifices. No more blood sacrifices of any kind required. The temple redundant and wrecked by an earthquake.
This had to be God’s doing – God reaching down to man from heaven and opening the way of salvation to eternal intimacy with Him. Thus Jesus declares in John 14:6, ““I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” And Hebrews 10:19-20 speaks of our ability to come with boldness and confidence into God’s presence by the way that Jesus has opened for us through the curtain.
Only God could tear in two this 60 feet high curtain from the top down. Only Jesus could pay the price for our salvation. Price paid in full.
Jesus rose from the dead; and, if you believe, you can rise with Him through the curtain into eternal intimacy with God.
Happy morn!
