God of Comfort

All Posts, Divine encounters, Ministry outreach No Comments
We’re ‘loitering with intent’ in a cancer hospital lobby seeking whom God would have us to pray for/minister to. Eric has prayed for some but LaVonne is concerned she has not prayed for anyone. “Perhaps you’re here on assignment to minister to just one person who hasn’t appeared yet,” suggests Eric. Almost immediately, along comes Linda* in obvious distress.
LaVonne beckons to her and Linda collapses in LaVonne’s arms, crying on her shoulder.  Linda has just been told to consider turning off her husband’s life support. LaVonne whispers words of comfort in her ear. Divine appointment, right time, right place. Her tears cease, and peace comes. God is here.
Eric asks, “Do you want to believe for a miracle?”  Linda says no. Her husband has been battling cancer now for more than 6 months, has had organs removed and now his colon is punctured, leaking infection everywhere. Her husband is “wore-out” she says; it’s his time to go. Linda and her husband are both Christians. He will be home with Jesus and his suffering will be ended. So LaVonne prays with Linda and adds that she will ask God to send her people to come alongside and comfort her. Linda quickly replies, “He already has!

Wonder No More!

Dear All,
You may have wondered why we have been silent on our website since September, and in particular why we posted nothing at all for Christmas and Easter, while followers of our Facebook page have enjoyed uninterrupted service.
This was because we were effectively locked out of our website by a security glitch. Also, our email address was cloned by  spammers which flooded our inbox to where we simply could not use it. Now that these problems have finally been fixed, we have resumed normal service on our website.
We wish you every blessing in Jesus Christ. He is RISEN!

Champions Network

All Posts, Christian Gospel, Christian Healing, Men's Ministry, Ministry outreach, Salvation, Women's Ministry No Comments

It is well known that there is a drugs epidemic in America, some call it a war, and Ohio has it particularly bad! Accordingly, we have become increasingly involved with the Champions Groups of Refuge Ministries (see our Feb 6 post).

Their Champions Groups bring people together to help them find freedom from addictions of all kinds through the healing power of Jesus Christ. Through Christ-centered discipleship in small groups, the aim is to see people set free, grow spiritually and become equipped to help others and empower their church. Lives are seen to be transformed by the power of Jesus Christ. The focus is on discipleship and personal growth, because it’s not enough just to quit doing drugs, alcohol, pornography or whatever. In order to remove these strongholds completely, they must be replaced with a relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by changed lives and the fruit of the Spirit. Only through Christ, can a man or woman be set free and made strong enough not to relapse back into addictive behavior.

The guys who make up these Champions groups are true disciples and champions of Jesus, because their pursuit of Him and His ways is literally a matter of life or death for them. It certainly focuses the mind that death is knocking at your door, if your addiction is not overcome.

Addicts will try to make it alone; and then they’ll try some secular rehab programs; but a man must learn that he cannot save himself, that only Christ can set him free and keep him free. It’s when we finally come to the end of ourselves that God can and does step in. God sent us a Savior in Jesus Christ because we absolutely need one!

Refuge Ministries has a track record of proven success with thousands of men set free and staying free. Now they are also opening up to women.

Addicts experience a welcoming and judgment-free environment. No guilt, shame or condemnation. We are all in the same battle; and we’re all on the same side, because death is a daily possibility for us all, but we all tend to discount the possibility until we’re well into our latter years. All men and women have addictive behaviors of some sort. The Bible is clear. All of us sin and fall short of the glory of the Lord, and the wages of sin is death, premature or otherwise. We cannot live a sin-free life, none of us; and so we all need the Savior who is Jesus Christ, and none other.

Freedom from addiction is only possible through a living, vital relationship with Jesus Christ. Addicts usually try a Christ-centered rehab program as a last resort; and then wonder why they didn’t go there first! Secular programs cannot provide the essential spiritual transformation that is required. It is useless and self-defeating to try to treat addicts with other drugs–it merely substitutes one addiction for another. It would be nonsensical to treat alcoholics with other types of alcohol or porn addicts with a lesser type of porn. It does not work!

We are so excited to be working with the guys of the Champions Network. These guys are true champions. Having been (some of them) heroin addicts and dealers, they are now 1, 3, 5, or even 6 or more years clean, and reaching out to others. They know firsthand the grace and mercy and the power and love of God. Some have been bound by drugs and alcohol for decades and are now living clean. Their testimonies are amazing. If you want to know more, contact us.

One final point. When a person comes to a Champions Group and receives Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior, they are never again referred to as an addict. They have been truly born again by the Spirit of God; they are a brand new creation—-their old life and nature has gone and brand new has come in (2 Cor. 5:17). Christ can do this. Christ does this. A Champions Group member is never permitted to say: “I’m Peter, and I’m an alcoholic,” or “I’m Paul, and I’m a drug addict.” If they say that, they are immediately corrected. They are saints of God, the same as other Christians.

Happy Resurrection Day!

All Posts, Christian Gospel, Salvation No Comments
There is no question but that Jesus lived and died and was resurrected. There are several eyewitness accounts in the Bible which would certainly be good enough for any court of law today.
John writes: “We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard…” (1 John 1:1-3 NLT)
Paul writes to the believers in Corinth: “Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it.  It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you…. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all…..I also saw him.” (1 Corinthians 15:1-8 NLT)
He also writes to the church in Rome: “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.  For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” (Romans 5:8-11 NLT)
Through faith in Christ’s death and resurrection, a wonderful new friendship relationship with God can be ours together with complete and total assurance of our salvation—not on our own merits (for we can never attain God’s righteousness ourselves) but solely on Christ’s merits alone.
No other faith or religion guarantees this to you!
Through faith in Jesus Christ, His perfect righteousness and holiness are imputed to you. He has prepared and prepaid your way, for, just as He said, He is the Way and He is the Door. (John 14:6, 10:7-9)

TGIGF — Thank God it’s Good Friday!

All Posts, Christian Gospel, Salvation No Comments

Men put up memorials and statues to remember their victories and heroes, but the greatest hero and the greatest victory of all is remembered, not by lifeless stone or metal, but by a rugged wooden cross on which Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died as the once-for-all, everlasting sacrifice to atone for the sins of men, and by the bread and wine of Holy Communion—symbols of His body broken on the cross and of the blood that He shed.

Two thousand years later, the cross of Christ has lost none of its power, nor has His blood lost one drop of power to cleanse us from sin. And our greatest hero, our wonderful Saviour, is very much alive—Jesus, the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8)

Thank God it’s Good Friday!

This New Year

All Posts, Christian Gospel, Creation, Intelligent Design, Salvation No Comments

We may now be entering into the New Year of 2017 but let us not take it for granted. Rarely do we stop to recognise that every day, every hour, every moment of every year is made and given to us by God. Indeed every breath we take is numbered and given by Him. Jesus said that God numbers the very hairs on our heads! Psalm 139:16 tells us that every day granted to us is written in a book that God keeps in heaven.

Such precision is evident throughout all of creation. The fact that space travel is possible with mathematical precision is persuasive against “order from chaos” predicated by the “Big Bang” theory. Indeed, it is no more than a theory and breaks man’s own laws of thermodynamics.

earthIf we would rocket out of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and look back to try and pick out our planet Earth, we would find it impossible; and we would soon appreciate the vastness of the universe and the greatness of God, the Creator. The Milky Way is estimated to contain as many as 400 billion stars of which our planet is just one; and our galaxy is just one of the two trillion galaxies that we are able to observe. There are infinitely more galaxies and planets that we can’t observe.

Psalm 147:4-5 says of God: He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit. Psalm 19:1 contradicts the random Big Bang theory in saying of God: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

One of the great hymns of all time is ‘How Great Thou Art’. The Holy Spirit would readily anoint George Beverly Shea’s singing of this hymn to convict Billy Graham’s crusade audiences of their need of salvation. The first verse says: O Lord, my God, When I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands hath made. . . I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. The third verse says: And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burdens gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. Israel’s King David wrote in Psalm 8:3-4: When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them?

An earth year is, as we know, the time it takes for the earth to go round the sun. Let this be for you a year of orbiting the Son… Jesus, the Son of God. King David’s life’s orbit was around the Lord in intimate friendship, a man after God’s own heart. There’s nothing stopping you from deciding to do the same for 2017, especially since Christ has opened the way for all who will receive Him. And let us always remember that God does care for us. He loves us; and in His love, He sent His Son Jesus to make a way of salvation for us if we will simply accept, believe and trust Him.

Joy To The World!

All Posts, Christian Gospel, Creation, Intelligent Design, Salvation No Comments

star-peaceGenesis and Revelation, written thousands of years apart, the first and last of the 66 books of the Bible; one written in Hebrew, the other in Greek; one that denies us the tree of life, the other that restores it to us; one that places us under a curse, the other that removes it; one that casts man out of a beautiful garden, the other that brings him a new earth. Sixty-six books written at various times over the millennia by numerous authors of different social backgrounds, cultures and places, yet each woven into an epic and true story with a perfect beginning and a perfect end, depicting the fall of man but promising man’s salvation and ultimate restoration through Jesus Christ.

And the One who is the Grand Editor of this magnificent work is God. It could only be God. For is there any man, or any group of men, that has lived long enough to write such a masterpiece or even have smarts enough to plan it? Truly all human history is His Story, whether men believe it or not. It is the greatest love story ever told. And none will ever better it. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

A man, Adam, lost our eternal intimacy and oneness with God; and so a man had to win it back. No man was good enough or equal to the task; and so it was, as the Old Testament prophets foretold, that Jesus came that very first Christmas morn to be born in Bethlehem. God came to earth as a baby to grow and to live as a man.

jttwHe was born in very humble surroundings that none might be deterred or disqualified from coming to Him for the priceless gift of eternal life and happiness He offers; for the gospels are clear that Christ rejects no one who turns to Him. As a baby He was venerated by both Jews and non-Jews, by poor Jewish shepherds and by the Magi, foreigners from the east. Tradition says the Magi were kings but they were in fact highest-tier, king-making priests of the Parthian Empire who practised a mix of astrology and astronomy. Thus they followed a star to find the Christ-child, and thus from the outset Christ was presented to the world as a king willing to receive all peoples regardless of their social status and previous religious background.

Christ came to share our humanity, to be tempted in life in every way, just as we are, and yet He resisted all temptations and sinned not.  He blessed and healed all who came to Him, and then went to the Cross willingly to die for us, to pay a price for our salvation that none of us can ever pay, because all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Only light can have fellowship with light, righteousness with holiness, the perfect with perfection. He arose from the tomb in great glory. He returned in triumph to heaven as the one and only righteous and eternal, atoning sacrifice for our sins. Love and Justice were fully satisfied.

So Jesus has prepaid your ticket to heaven. You have only to pick it up by believing and trusting in Him. By choosing to believe what Jesus has done for you, you exchange your unrighteousness for His righteousness; but not so that you can go on living as you did before. No, you must ask God to forgive you your sins and you must determine to turn and live your life as best you can with His help according to His teachings. The Holy Spirit, as Jesus promised, will be your Helper and Guide. This is the just the start of a brand new life: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Cor. 5:17).  Ask God to lead you to a lively church and to a good Christian mentor. Get yourself a Bible and start reading the New Testament. Don’t ever think that you can go it alone.

“God, God, God” !

“First, God. God is the subject of life. God is foundational for living. If we don’t have a sense of the primacy of God, we will never get it right, get life right, get our lives right. Not God at the margins; not God as an option; not God at the weekends. God at center and circumference; God first and last; God, God, God.”

Time to Refresh

All Posts, Church life, Divine Guidance No Comments

As can be appreciated from previous posts, Eric & LaVonne have really been taking some hits; and the grieving process, especially for LaVonne, has not been easy. Grieving is natural for everyone but for the Christian it is a process that need not last long. Christians can rejoice in knowing that heaven is real and that they will be reunited with their loved ones in heaven one glorious day.

Times of RefreshingEric and LaVonne have had to deal not only with their personal grief but also with adjusting to life and ministry together on a permanent basis without enforced, extended periods of separation, which has been the pattern of their marriage for the last 4 years. But God is so good and has blessed their marriage with a high degree of flexibility and resilience. Nevertheless, times of refreshing and recuperation are much needed; and in August, LaVonne resigned as an associate pastor at New Life of Springfield Church, so that she and Eric could rest, refresh and spend resettlement time together, as well as to wait on the Lord for their future path.

They are presently enjoying refreshing at Zion Christian Fellowship in Columbus (Powell Campus) under Pastors Jim & Mary Baker. Based at that church is the Columbus School of Supernatural Ministry that is linked with the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California, under Pastor Bill Johnson — they run the same curriculum. Eric and LaVonne have enrolled in the Columbus school and are very much enjoying the classes. They have also joined the Healing Rooms movement and are very much enjoying being part of the team at the In His Presence Healing Room in Plain City, Ohio.

We wait to see what God has for them next. Eric’s heart is for missions, as our June 13 post indicates. This requires a great deal of financial support, but God’s vision always receives His PROvision—and Eric and LaVonne are waiting on the fulfillment of a stack of exciting prophecies.

Even so, Eric and LaVonne are open to whatever the Lord requires of them. Recently, some of the ladies from the Springfield church approached LaVonne to continue mentoring them, which has led to monthly ladies meetings in one lady’s home in Springfield, that began last month.
